Welcome to the Galaxy Guide
Welcome to the Galaxy Guide, traveller. I hope the journey here wasn't too taxing. Before you get to your research why don't you rest here a while. Let me give you a little background on the Guide that may help in your searches. First off, I'm Alcon Wanderman, the librarian here. I used to be quite the scout and explorer, but those days are behind me -- or they were. In the course of my travels I came across ancient holo manuals and occationally a few actual books and manuscripts! The holos and books detailed a time long ago in a galaxy far away. They were written by many adventurers and wanders who were not unlike myself. I started gathering a collection of these texts as I travelled. I used them not only for entertainment during long hyperspace passages, but also to help me in my travels. Some of them contained extremely useful knowledge! When I retired from scouting and exploring I decided that I should share the knowledge I had collected, and should provide a place for others to do the same. So I created the Galaxy Guide.
It's based on a series of ancient holo manuals about the Galaxy, some of which I discovered on my travels. The difference being that it's a holo library instead of a single manual. The Guide contains the information about the Galaxy that I found in those Galaxy Guide manuals and many others like them. It's incomplete, as I've only gotten so far in adding in the manuals. And I'm still working on the organization of the library. I probably always will be for the rest of life. Many other people have contributed, but there's a whole ton of knowledge out there. If you'd like to contribute things you've learned in your travels you're well welcome to, just make note of where you found things. That way folks can go back to the original source if they so choose. If you don't have anything you'd like to add in, feel free to simply make use of the holos. Oh, I should point out, you should register yourself before you try to add new stuff, or change the stuff that's already in. That way we can keep track of who's adding what. If you just want to browse you don't have to register. Well, you know all you need to know to make the best use of the Guide at this point. If you're feeling rested enough feel free to procede into the stacks. Otherwise, why don't you let me tell you a little bit about those who came before.
I should mention, before I continue, that my own adventures that I thought were long over have begun again -- not in the Known Galaxy unfortunately. They frequently pull me away from the Guide for long periods of time. If you wish to contact me you should feel free, and I will respond as soon as I can. I'll return as often as I can to continue the work I began here. There is still much to be done.
The Known Galaxy and Its Explorers
The galaxy I'm speaking of here is the Star Wars Galaxy, or the Known Galaxy. Or just the Galaxy. For some of you it's a galaxy far, far away and the events recorded here are from a long time ago. Others of you may call it home, and these events are either recent memory or just taking place. Some may even be from the future. Don't ask me how this is possible, I don't know. The rules by which we experience the Galaxy were created by an organization known as West End Games. The rules were wise, fair and good and used an object known as a d6. For many years West End Games ruled justly and everyone in the Galaxy played by their rules. However, the evil Empire eventually found them and defeated them. West End Games continues, a shell of its former self. And the Empire now rules over much of the Galaxy with an iron fist and the d20.
However, there are some who resist. We continue to live by the old ways of West End Games and the d6. We have to play in secret bases on the holonet that must remain hidden should the Empire find us and attempt to shut us down. The Galaxy Guide is one of those bases. The knowledge contained here-in is for use with the old code and the d6. If you wish to find other bases of the old ways, take a look at the links, but be discrete. In order to grow our rebellion, we must accept new comers. However, you never know who might turn to the dark side.
